The interoperability between structural engineering tools plays a key role in the success of infrastructure projects. In the following case, IDEA StatiCa and Checkbot helped CSF Consulting to save 900-man hours.

Checkbot worked as a translator to communicate between STAAD.Pro and IDEA StatiCa connection, transferring hundreds of nodes and thousands of load combinations, avoiding any load input errors. The structural design process started in STAAD.Pro, where the global structure was analyzed and designed. Using the Checkbot app within STAAD, the entire structure can be imported into Checkbot. Finally, IDEA StatiCa will open every node with the geometry and load combinations where the connection can be modeled and designed.

The project consists of three different buildings – the main house, garage, and pool house.
With an open architectural design and unpropped balcony, the two-story building of the main house sits on a steep bluff overlooking the ocean, exposing it to high winds and introducing numerous challenges in terms of the structural design of the vertical and lateral load resisting systems.
Originally conceived in steel, both the client and architect wished to move to a predominantly wood solution.

The Queens Wharf Skydeck was designed to become the must-see destination for those seeking spectacular views of Brisbane. Perched 100 meters above the Brisbane River, upon completion, the Skydeck will provide an open-air observation deck and public realm between the towers of the Queens Wharf Development, offering panoramas of the river, South Bank Parklands and city skyline.

Comprising four towers spanned by three fabricated steel truss bridges, structure consisted of complex geometry. Using IDEA StatiCa, Dallas Lee, a principal engineer at the Robert Bird Group, and his team gained the precise flexibility needed to model the three-dimensional truss nodes accurately, safely, and efficiently.

ARUP used IDEA StatiCa on this 15-storey commercial development in London City with 4 basement levels, retail ground floor, a restaurant on the 14th floor and a public roof garden. Steel frame superstructure was done using plate girder beams and metal deck slab.
